The Corso Systems Culture
Say what you will about any company in the manufacturing industry’s culture. At the end of the day, if you go to a conference it is going to be around 90-95% white males in the range of 30-60 years old. There will be a few females, and even fewer people of color. A couple of years ago, we saw one hilariously bad image up on the main stage at a conference: one of the more forward-thinking companies in the industry had a banner of just male icons, some in a tan color and some dark brown with the word “INCLUSIVITY” above it. While you can appreciate that they mentioned the word at the conference, this attempt was pretty misguided.
At Corso Systems we do things differently.
You won’t find us calling our people by any ridiculous nicknames. You won’t find us wearing a weird themed uniform at a conference (aside from our awesome t-shirts!). Instead, you’ll find our employee handbook and culture is full of policies and goals to continue improving our overall contribution to building a diverse team and hopefully helping that spread to the whole industry.
Below you will find our mission statement and core values, along with discussion about why they are what they are and what they mean.
Our Mission Statement
Corso Systems challenges ourselves and those around us to exceed all expectations and approach each day with integrity and passion, while transforming businesses through technology, education, and collaboration.
Our Core Values
Commitment
We commit to the continued success of our customers and employees by cultivating strong relationships rooted in mutual respect and understanding. Our customers' challenges are also our challenges, and we are committed to helping each and every member of the Corso Systems team meet their goals and potential.
Diversity
Everyone sees the world through a different lens. We expand our worldview by building a team of individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and cultures; our perspective is not limited to one mindset. This allows us to provide creative and novel solutions to real-world obstacles.
Empowerment
We empower our employees and customers to have the skills and tools to execute their vision.
Growth
What got us here won’t get us where we want to be. We foster continuous growth so we can adapt to the world around us. By focusing on growth we can provide leading technology and services to our customers now and into the future. We are focused on giving our employees opportunities to grow, learn, and adapt to an ever changing world.
What Do Our Core Values Mean?
We are committed to making our customers and our employees feel like they are in an environment where they can be successful. We seek to build a diverse team, made up of people from diverse backgrounds, experiences, locations, and worldviews. As of the time of this writing, Corso Systems is 50% female which is unheard of in this industry. It is not by accident, it is by building an inclusive culture, providing opportunities from day one for things like distributed work, and clearly spelling out policies like parental leave and providing generous benefits.
Empowerment goes hand in hand with a distributed workforce. It means we trust one another to get things done, ask for help when necessary, and provide guidance, understanding, and empathy along the way.
Growth means we never want to be standing still. We don’t want to simply do the same things over and over again, we want to learn, improve, and challenge ourselves to do better.
It means Corso Systems is different. It isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. You don’t have to have earned a 4.0 GPA from a top engineering school to come here and thrive. In fact we welcome people who haven’t with open arms, just as much as people who have.
It means we put in effort, time, and energy into recruiting from a wide variety of places, seek out opportunities to help people who might not know systems integration exists, so they can learn about what we do, and provide a great place to work while we’re at it.
We’ve gotta work somewhere, why not make it an awesome place to be?
