Ignition Explained Edge Licensing

Welcome to Ignition Explained. We’re reviewing the Ignition Modules one by one, discussing what you get with each of them, and how Corso Systems uses them to build a project. There always seems to be questions about what each module does, and doesn’t do. So we’re going through them one by one. If you missed the first post and video on Vision Module, then check it out here. Want to see more? Check out the rest of the Ignition Explained series.

Edge Licensing

Edge licensing is best understood in three sections. We're going to make the IMPORTANT NOTE that you can use any/all of options on the same machine at the same time.

Ignition Edge Panel

Ignition Edge Panel includes a local HMI with one week of data storage and unlimited tags. This product is extremely useful for local backups on machines. It covers standard drivers, one local web-launched client, one remote web-launched client, and alarming features including one-way email notification.

Ignition Edge Enterprise

This option basically adds the Enterprise Administration Module functionality to Ignition Edge Panel. (Read more about EAM). We absolutely love it. The Enterprise Administration Module (EAM) allows you to connect directly into your main gateway for amazing functions like store and forward, remote backup, restoration management, and health metrics.

Ignition Edge MQTT by Cirrus Link

First, do you know what MQTT is? If you don't check out article on MQTT and IIoT. The Ignition Edge MQTT Module easily allows you to use the MQTT Broker that supports Sparkplug (B), such as the Cirrus Link Modules which (seamlessly) work with Ignition. We go into more detail in the video above, so check that out, or feel free to contact us with any questions. For most people, this module is part of a much larger architecture conversation. So if we do a good job, we'll link it here when that's up and running. Otherwise, you will need to use the search function and see what we've been talking about.

Stand Back From the Edge

In some cases, you might need to use a standard Ignition Gateway in place of an Edge license. For example, if you want more than 7 days of historical data access, reporting module access, or database access you will need to use a standard Ignition Gateway.

If you have any architecture questions and want to know what the best setup is for you, please let us know!
